No Doubt who the King is....

Well the New Imperial Guard codex has been out for two gaming seasons and we have seen the release of not one but 3 dynamic armies since that release (Tyranids, Space Wolves, and Blood Angles) and we have seen 2 'Ard Boys have come and gone and still the Imperial Guard is king of the hill.

With or Without allies they are still the strongest army out there. No one else can boast more turn 1 wins than any army currently out and with First place finishes at the past 2 'Ard Boys are now the undisputed King.

I also see that in the top 4 tables for the final round there was 4 IG players.

Shhh, you are going to hurt marine feelings talking like that. Let them think they are the best so when they lose its that much of a better emotional blow. Besides, willing to bet those are hyper cheesy guard lists with no theme to them.

I said IG were uber when the new codex was released.

It is nice to be validated I guess. Be better if GW would play test before the release books.

Tim,
there were 3 finals locations (midwest, east coast and west coast)...
IG only won one of them.

I believe CSM won West Coast (well, one coast) and I cannot remember off the top of me cabeza which won the other.

Okay, addendum

It looks like (in order)
West Coast
Daemons
S Wolves
Eldar

East Coast
CSM
S Wolves
BA

Chicago
IG
Orks
S Wolves

I would say that with only one army showing in top 3 at all locations, it could be argued they're on top (which doesn't surprise me...barring Dark Eldar really throwing a monkey wrench out there, I expect SW to stay up there).

Oh, and one of the winners (I believe CSM) was from Fla.

Daemons have also won two Ard Boyz finals as well as IG.

I disagree they are not the King....not because their book is great, it is the fact there is SO MANY PLAYERS for the army. Kinda skews the ratio of winners. Let's see if you have 10 players for example 6 are IG...pretty damm good odds IG would win. Same would go for any other army being plugged into the mix.

It also factors into the IG player are they playing a cheeseball list (9 Valk/Vendettas and Medusas) or are they bringing a variety of stuff. A good player can still do well with a medicore list and a craptastic player can do well with a cheeseball list as it is hard to fail with a stacked army list. Also have to consider who they play and how their builds are, are they balanced or another cheesefest.

Clark from Skull and Bones won with Demons. Perhaps dogged as a middle ground or lower end codex by some. Based on the postings of all the winners from each of the 3 regions, it was spread out and a variety. Sure, most of of the top placers was the last 4 codex book: Blood Angels, Nids, Wolves and IG. Also, they are also the most heavily played armies right now. A true fact the newest books always has a majority of the new players follown them.

Yea, your right. Thought it was Demons from what I heard. Still, the codex is craptastic compared to other books. You have only one or two decent builds that is worth a flip.

I was glad to see two 'middleweight' 'dexes win....
You're right, in that CSM is quite shortlegged on choices, and Daemons are still feeling the pain of the =][= allies.

I was also glad to see that from a play perspective. It means that (anti-meta or not) the better PLAYERS were pulling it out there, and not just the big auto-play lists.

And Styx, you pointed out something I was going to add but missed (and you beat me to)....that sheer body count pushes the odds of a given 'dex pulling 1st up, and after last years win we saw a bump in IG players on the tourney circuit.
